He highlighted the severity of the floods in Punjab, where over 4 lakh acres of paddy crop were destroyed, more than 10 lakh animals perished, and lakhs of people, mostly from marginalized communities, lost their homes. “The Rs 1,600 crore initial relief announced by the Union government does grave injustice to the people of Punjab,” Gandhi stated in the letter.

The Opposition leader witnessed the devastation during a recent visit to flood-affected areas in Punjab and noted the remarkable display of humanity and generosity among communities who rallied to support those who lost everything. He stressed the need for a “bolder response” from the government to address the crisis effectively.
The letter underscores the urgency for a comprehensive approach to help Punjab recover from the floods, considering the extensive damage to crops, livestock, homes, and arable land.
